Objectives of the Programme :
Within the Department of Information Evidence and Research, the Knowledge, Languages and Publishing (KLP) units implement the regional knowledge management and sharing strategy for health systems development: a) ensuring that information products issued by the Regional Office in all languages are of high quality, conform to WHO publishing policy guidelines and WHO style, and are produced efficiently; and b) promoting national and regional capacity and network-building among knowledge workers to stimulate the generation, translation and dissemination of valuable knowledge in the Region. The Regional Office and Country Web Support unit is a key contributor to that strategy.

Purpose of the Position:
To support the development and maintenance of the Regional Office web site.

Organizational context :
Under the direct supervision of the Web Administrator, the Web Technical Assistant supports development and maintenance of the EMRO web site. He/she works to support consistent functional architecture and directory structures that meet the needs of users and content providers, that meet global internet standards, and that are in line with WHO policies.

Description of duties:

Summary of Assigned Duties :

– Undertake quality assurance checks and apply fixes to make sure that the web site functions correctly, including broken links, missing metadata, browser compatibility, appropriate size of images, and adding Google event tracking labels, among other things.
– Implement World Wide Consortium accessibility guidelines in order to ensure optimal access to the web site for visually impaired users.

– Backstop publication of web content in Arabic, English and French as needed, in coordination with other members of the Web team and following up with the web editors and translators to ensure alignment across languages as needed and determine gaps in any language.
– Provide other technical support to maintain the web site as needed.

– Perform other related duties as required.

High quality, high performance web site that conforms to WHO policy and global web standards and meets the needs of users and content providers.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Essential: Completion of secondary education, formal training in computer programming and content management systems Desirable: BA in a relevant subject

Functional Skills and Knowledge :

Good knowledge of the Joomla content management system
Good knowledge of web programming languages, technology and authorware
Good knowledge of Windows NT operating environment
Knowledge of image processing and illustration tools and other relevant design software Ability to be proactive and solve problems

Experience:

Essential: 6 years progressive experience in developing websites and experience in development use of the Joomla content management system

Languages:

Very good knowledge of spoken and written English and Arabic. Knowledge of French an asset.

Additional Information:

Annual salary: (Net of tax) 89,679 EGP at single rate
